The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2009, Alberto Morillas set out to distill the energy of a Mediterranean dawn for Collistar's first men's fragrance. Drawing on the brand's professional-beauty roots and its Italian heritage, Morillas reached for the citrus groves along the coast, establishing bergamot as the cornerstone. Rather than stopping at bright citrus, he layered green notes to capture the vegetive freshness of coastal landscapes, added black pepper and blackcurrant for depth, then grounded everything in the durable woods he knew from previous work on aquatic fragrances. The result reflects both the precision of professional cosmetics and the warmth of Italian style.
Morillas selected each note to serve a specific purpose in the overall composition. Bergamot and Green Notes establish the Mediterranean identity through freshness and brightness. Black Pepper and Blackcurrant prevent the opening from remaining purely citrus by adding complexity and depth. The conifer pairing of Cypress and Cedarwood creates the aromatic heart while Vetiver and Cashmere Wood bring texture and warmth that prevents the wooden notes from feeling skeletal. Finally, Benzoin, Musk and Amber provide a warm, lingering base that anchors the fragrance for hours after application.
The evolution
The fragrance opens on a sharp, sparkling note of Bergamot that immediately conjures sun-lit groves along the Italian coast, quickly joined by Green Notes that lend a fresh-cut vegetive quality to the composition. Black Pepper then arrives with gentle spice while Blackcurrant contributes dark, almost wine-like fruitiness that braces the brightness. As the opening subsides, Cypress takes center stage as the primary heart note, its pine aroma capturing aromatic Mediterranean landscapes, with Cedarwood adding woody structure alongside. Vetiver brings earthy, slightly smoky depth that prevents the heart from becoming too airy, while Cashmere Wood introduces subtle warmth that bridges the transition. The drydown settles into Benzoin's sweet resin, Musk's intimate skin feel, and Amber's golden warmth, creating a lasting impression that contrasts beautifully with the crisp opening.
Cultural impact
Since its 2009 debut, Acqua Attiva Assoluta has become a go‑to for men seeking a crisp, active scent that bridges daytime vigor with understated evening wear. Wearers often note its fresh opening as a reminder of coastal mornings, while the lingering musk earns quiet compliments in office settings. Its aromatic‑woody profile places it alongside other Mediterranean‑inspired classics, carving a niche for those who favor clean energy over heavy gourmand notes.
