The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lucas Sieuzac created Edition Blanche in 2015, marking the 25th anniversary of the original 1881 Pour Homme. The brief wasn't to replace it, to reinterpret it. The Editions Blanche are fresh and sparkling reads of classics, and this one leans into the white soul of the original: lighter, airier, more aromatic. Think white linen instead of cream cotton. Same tailoring, different season.
The structure here is classic fougère, bergamot-citrus top, lavender heart, oakmoss-woody base, but the execution skews modern. The mint amplifies the freshness without going aquatic or synthetic. The blackcurrant in the heart is the quiet move: it adds a fruity dimension that keeps the lavender from going barbershop, giving the whole thing a green edge that reads contemporary. Cedar and amber in the base don't overpower, they round out the edges so the drydown stays close to skin, intimate rather than projecting.
The evolution
Cerruti 1881 Edition Blanche Pour Homme was conceived as a fresh take on the house's classic masculinity, aiming to blend bright opening energy with a quietly confident drydown. The perfumer started by shaping a vivid citrus lift that instantly captures attention, then layered a subtle herbaceous echo that adds depth without heaviness. As the scent settles, the heart reveals a refined blend of cool, slightly spiced facets that bridge the opening and the base. The final phase unfolds as a smooth, warm woody aura that stays close to the skin, giving the wearer an enduring sense of assurance. The overall trajectory moves from lively brightness to grounded warmth, maintaining an airy quality that never overwhelms.
Cultural impact
The 1881 line has endured since 1990 as a reference point for the man who wants fougère structure without the vintage weight. Edition Blanche updates that conversation for a generation that values freshness but wants something with actual drydown. It's the scent you wear when you know you don't need to fill the room.
