The beginning
For 15 years, Love, don't be shy has been By Kilian's quietest confession. A fragrance built on the tenderness of first love, honeysuckle and rose wrapped in marshmallow sugar. In 2022, the house marked its anniversary with a new bottle: gold beams of light against black lacquer, a reference to the Eiffel Tower at night, to Paris seen from above. The refillable design philosophy remains, luxury that shouldn't be ephemeral. Calice Becker composed the original, and she composed this anniversary edition too. Same story. Same soul. A different frame.
The Narcotics collection is By Kilian's most intimate. Names like Good girl gone Bad and Voulez-vous coucher avec Moi set the tone, provocative, yes, but Love, don't be shy takes a different route. It whispers. The fragrance becomes a metaphor for something not yet spoken aloud. Honeysuckle reads as juicy and innocent. Rose adds plush softness. The marshmallow accord is where it lives, sweet, clean, the smell of possibility. Lapouza didn't build this to shock. She built it to remember.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with a burst of citrus and spice, bergamot brightens against pink pepper's gentle heat, neroli brings its delicate floral soapiness, coriander adds an unexpected herbal lift. Twenty minutes in, the florals take over. Honeysuckle and rose arrive together, sweet and plush, almost sticky in their intimacy. The orange blossom keeps things clean beneath the sweetness. As it settles into the drydown, the marshmallow accord blooms, sugary and soft, warmed by vanilla and caramel. Labdanum adds a faint resinous depth underneath. Musk keeps the whole thing from tipping into candy. The sillage drops after the first hour, sitting closer to the skin, intimate rather than announced. This is a fragrance for close quarters, brushing past someone, leaning in, the exhale of a shared moment.

Love, don't be shy has maintained its following since 2007, a long run for any fragrance, especially in a house that leans toward provocation over comfort. The anniversary edition arrived in 2022 as a tribute to the brand's French heritage and its commitment to lasting luxury.
