The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Colors de Benetton Pink arrived in 2016 as part of Benetton's Colors line, a return to the chromatic optimism that defined the brand's first fragrance release in 1987. The 2016 edition came as a pair with Blue, both created to promote diversity, multiculturalism, beauty, and optimism. Carine Certain Boin composed this Pink variation as a cheerful floral-fruity composition, leaning into Benetton's philosophy of everyday optimism, something that works equally well on a morning commute or a weekend outing.
What makes this composition interesting is its balance of traditional and contemporary. The heart of rose, jasmine, and orange blossom is classically feminine, but the tropical opening and warm woody-vanilla base push it away from anything dated. It's the kind of fragrance that respects its genre without being defined by it. The passion fruit note doesn't linger long enough to feel synthetic, it opens bright and hands off to the florals before the sweetness becomes cloying.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately: passion fruit and tangerine create a bright, tropical sweetness that doesn't apologize for being fruity. The bergamot keeps it from becoming saccharine, adding a clean citrus edge. Within 30 minutes, the florals begin to assert themselves, rose and orange blossom taking center stage, the jasmine adding a subtle creaminess underneath. This is the phase that feels most "Benetton", approachable and cheerful, never challenging. The drydown arrives slowly, driven by musk and vanilla. The patchouli keeps it grounded, preventing the base from becoming overly sweet. The amber adds a warmth that lingers close to the skin for 6-8 hours on most people.
Cultural impact
Colors de Benetton Pink sits comfortably within the fashion-lifestyle fragrance category, sweet, approachable, and designed for broad appeal rather than niche distinction. It represents Benetton's ongoing commitment to accessible optimism, translated into scent. The fragrance doesn't aim to challenge or provoke; its role is to offer a pleasant, wear-anywhere option that mirrors the brand's colorful identity.
