The name is the concept. True Love was conceived in 1994 as an olfactory expression of that early-stage romantic intensity, when everything feels unprecedented and almost impossibly tender. Sophia Grojsman built the composition around that idea: warmth that deepens rather than announces, closeness that accumulates over time. The goal wasn't a grand gesture, it was the opposite. Something worn close. Something that stays.
What makes this composition unusual is the way the powdery iris character holds everything together, from first spray to final drydown. The iris doesn't arrive late or leave early, it sits at the center, connecting the fruity opening to the warm woody base. Orris root amplifies this effect, giving the powder quality a slightly earthy, root-like depth rather than a purely sweet talc note. Heliotrope adds that soft, slightly almond-like warmth that makes the heart feel intimate rather than blowsy.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and fruity, apricot and peach softened by freesia and green notes, with a powdery quality already visible underneath. The green-fruity layer fades first, as green notes always do, leaving the apricot and peach to blend with the powdery iris heart. From there, the heart settles into classic 1990s feminine elegance, iris and rose softened by heliotrope, with jasmine and lily of the valley drifting through. The base does the real work: creamy sandalwood and sweet vanilla, grounded by cedar and amber. The drydown lasts through an afternoon into evening, sitting close to the skin, intimate and warm. That's where True Love earns its name, not in the opening, but in the staying.
