The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sisterland is Benetton's answer to the question of female friendship, how do you bottle the energy of people who make each other better? Blue Neroli, the fourth in the collection, takes that premise and runs it through a perfumer's lens. Nicolas Beaulieu built this one around the tension between sharp citrus and soft white florals, a combination that mirrors how genuine connection works: bright at first encounter, then deeper, warmer, more layered the longer you stay. The neroli is the through-line, the note that holds the composition together, giving it a warm, approachable character that keeps the florals grounded rather than letting them drift into abstraction. It's about approachable warmth, not performance.
What makes this structure work is the way the florals don't overpower the citrus, and the citrus doesn't flatten the florals. Beaulieu uses a synthetic-sweet backbone, not a dirty word in this context, to bridge the gap between them. The neroli, jasmine, and orange blossom sit in a creaminess that keeps them from reading as soapy or old-fashioned, while the musk in the base pulls everything closer to the skin rather than projecting it outward.
The evolution
The opening lands like a glass of fresh-squeezed juice left in the sun, blood orange, mandarin, and bergamot collide with a sweetness that doesn't feel added, just present. The pear adds a quiet softness underneath, keeping the citrus from being too sharp. As the composition develops, the florals begin to take center stage. Neroli arrives first, with its characteristic warmth, followed by jasmine and orange blossom expanding the heart into something creamier, more intimate. The handoff to the base takes its time. Musk emerges quietly, almost as a texture rather than a note, it softens the edges of the florals and gives the cedar and amber something to hold onto. The vanilla and amber then create a warm, skin-close finish that lingers. On fabric, it fades gracefully. On skin, it stays close, the warmth settling into the skin rather than projecting outward.
Cultural impact
Blue Neroli joins a lineage of citrus-floral fragrances that explore optimism as a scent profile, with its synthetic-sweet undertone providing modern execution and grounding effect. The fragrance doesn't compete with niche releases at higher price points, instead occupying the space Benetton has always understood best: fragrance as everyday warmth, accessible without being forgettable. The balance between bright citrus and creamy florals creates something that feels both contemporary and timeless, appealing to those who want a scent that feels personal rather than a statement piece.
