The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Coleção Gourmandises at Atelier Segall & Barutti is where Tzivia Segall keeps her edible experiments, fragrances that treat sweetness as a subject, not an accident. Vanilla & Fruits Rouge came from a specific question: what happens when you let the fruit lead? Not a token berry in an otherwise woody composition. An entire orchard, held together by caramel and vanilla. Launched in 2019, it became the collection's bridge piece, accessible enough to wear daily, interesting enough to keep returning to. The name says exactly what it is. That's rare.
The structure is where Tzivia Segall's restraint shows. Seven heart notes could scatter into noise, raspberry, mango, strawberry, apple, caramel, orange blossom, jasmine all competing for attention. Instead, the caramel acts like a chaperone, keeping the fruit from running. The jasmine doesn't announce itself; it softens the edges of the sweetness. Orange blossom bridges the gap between fruit and vanilla. What looks abundant is actually disciplined. Most gourmand fragrances start sweet and stay sweet. This one earns its complexity.
The evolution
The citrus opening hits immediately, mandarin and Sicilian lemon, bright and tart. It lasts maybe fifteen minutes before the fruit arrives. Then comes the heart: raspberry, mango, strawberry, apple, caramel. The caramel becomes the through-line, present for the next three to four hours. The vanilla in the base doesn't announce itself, it seeps in gradually, taking over in the final act. White musk keeps it close to the skin. Praline lingers. On fabric, the spices persist into the next day. On skin, six to eight hours total, with the drydown growing quieter rather than fading.
Cultural impact
Atelier Segall & Barutti occupies a specific space in Brazilian niche perfumery, respected by collectors who seek character-driven compositions outside the French luxury mainstream. Vanilla & Fruits Rouge has found its audience among those who want gourmand without the expected presentation.
