The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Curtidas de Humor landed in 2018 from Natura's Humor line, a collection built around the idea that fragrance should make you smile. The name itself plays on something familiar, almost social-media casual: a like, a moment of approval, a small joy. Perfumers Alienor Massenet and Verônica Kato built this one around contrast. Bright fruit at the top, yes, but the real story lives in the transition from berry to praline, from freshness to something warm and close. The Humor line has always leaned playful, and this one delivers that without ever tipping into novelty. It's sweet, it's fruity, it's undeniably present. But it's also grounded enough to wear all day, all night, whenever the moment calls for it.
The note structure here is unusual in how deliberately it bridges two worlds. Most floral-fruity-gourmands commit to one register, the opening or the drydown. Curtidas de Humor holds both in tension. Hazelnut and heliotrope in the heart are doing something clever: they're already gourmand before the base arrives, creating a middle ground that feels edible without fully arriving at dessert. Coumarin and maltol reinforce that effect, adding hay-like sweetness that reads as warm skin rather than sugar. The woody base, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli, prevents the praline and vanilla from going too sweet.
The evolution
The opening announces itself immediately. Blackberry and raspberry hit sharp, almost tart, with pink pepper adding a faint warmth that keeps the berries from reading as candy. Mandarin orange appears quietly, softening the edges. Within 20 minutes, the hazelnut begins to assert itself, the heart has arrived. Jasmine and freesia add floral support, but heliotrope is doing the real work here, lending that powdery, slightly almond-like warmth that makes the whole composition feel like praline. The drydown takes its time. Vanilla and praline dominate, but cedar and sandalwood provide structure underneath, preventing the sweetness from collapsing into something flat. Patchouli adds a faint earthiness. Musk keeps everything close to the skin. On most skin types, this lasts 4-6 hours, with the praline note lingering longest, warm, intimate, skin-like. The sillage stays moderate. It's the kind of fragrance you wear for yourself as much as for anyone else.
Cultural impact
Curtidas de Humor represents Natura's continued expansion into the premium fragrance market, launched in 2018 as part of their Ekos line known for Brazilian botanical ingredients. The collaboration between French perfumer Alienor Massenet and Brazilian perfumer Verônica Kato reflects Natura's strategy of blending international expertise with local sensibility. The fragrance's sweet-fruity-gourmand profile, centered on praline and hazelnut, broke from traditional Brazilian fragrance conventions which tend toward fresher, lighter compositions. Its success in the Brazilian market helped establish that consumers there embrace richer, more dessert-like fragrances when executed with quality and restraint.
