The beginning
Devils Deceit II is the second chapter of Zackaria Ibn Hossain's Eden narrative. The official description leans into the mythology with a simple provocation: explore temptation in Eden. The original Devils Deceit explored temptation in a more streamlined form. This one widens the lens, layering Bulgarian rose absolute and Indian jasmine over a base stacked with civet, deer musk, ambergris, and Thai oud. The chypre skeleton holds everything in place, red apple meeting animalic heat beneath a canopy of florals that feel dense rather than decorative. The top introduces apple and grapefruit alongside clove, a bright, almost confectionery entry that carries the fruit character right to the skin.
What makes the composition unusual isn't any single material. It's the way the animalics interact with the florals above them. Civet tincture and deer musk sit in the base, grounding the Bulgarian rose absolute and Indian jasmine with a warmth that shifts the entire composition. The Bulgarian rose absolute feels dense and almost wine-like in its depth, and Indian jasmine, specifically Jasminum auriculatum absolute, adds an indolic sweetness that opens up against the animalic base. Heliotropin softens the edges of the base materials with a powdery almond quality.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the apple and clove, a sharp, almost confectionery brightness that carries the fruit character immediately. Grapefruit adds a green lift, and the spice notes prick underneath, sitting close to the skin with an intensity that reads as aromatic rather than gentle. Bergamot bridges into the heart, where Bulgarian rose absolute, carnation, and jasmine take over. The florals here are heavy, heady, almost too much in their density. Tuberose pushes toward the narcotic, and the composition thickens visibly, losing its crisp edges as the florals take over from the bright top. As the fragrance develops, the animalic materials surface. Civet arrives first, that unmistakable dirty warmth, followed by deer musk, which adds a soft, warm layer.
