The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
XXXL is the third expression in Zaharoff's Signature Royale series, following ROYALE X and XXX. Zaharoff describes this as the line's concentrated expression, stripped of pretense and built for skin that means it. The 2025 launch marks the series' boldest chapter yet. Opening with a sharp burst of cardamom and lavender, the composition quickly settles into its heart of warm woods and subtle spice. The dry down reveals creamy sandalwood intertwined with earthy vetiver, creating a lingering presence that remains close to the skin throughout the wear.
What makes XXXL distinct from its predecessors is the balance between warmth and restraint. The top opens with the kind of aromatic punch you'd expect from a serious masculine, lavender anchoring, spices cutting through. But there's an apple sweetness threading through the cumin that keeps it from becoming heavy too fast. Costus in the heart is unusual; the material carries a fuzzy, almost animalic quality that adds depth without tipping into roughness. Combined with suede and magnolia, it creates a middle ground that's floral-adjacent but undeniably masculine.
The evolution
The opening announces itself in seconds, lavender and cardamom arriving together, cumin close behind giving it that savory edge. Apple surfaces briefly, sweet and tart, before the composition settles. Thirty minutes in, the spices soften and the heart takes over: cashmere wood and suede form the backbone, magnolia lifting slightly. This is where the scent changes register, what opened assertive becomes intimate, projection dropping to a skin-warm murmur. By hour three, sandalwood and vetiver anchor everything down. Musk lingers longest, holding close through a long wear arc. On fabric, it resets softer the next day, vetiver and suede, barely there. The note interactions reward patience, cardamom and lavender playing off each other before cumin adds its particular depth.
Cultural impact
Part of Zaharoff's Signature Collection, XXXL enters a line that already includes ROYALE X and XXX. The fragrance won Best Musky Fragrance from Askmen.com in 2025, placing it in a category defined by warmth and sensuality. Reviews describe it as drier and more animalic than its predecessors, with the cumin and costus giving it a distinct character that sets it apart from mainstream offerings. The combination creates something that feels rooted in tradition while carrying a contemporary edge.
