The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Of the Immortals emerged from Zaharoff's 2022 collection, conceived during a period when the house was refining its approach to high-concentration oriental compositions. Perfumer Gino Percontino worked with the house's brief: create something that balances gourmand warmth against darker, more complex depths. The name suggests permanence, a fragrance built to linger, both in memory and on skin. This isn't a subtle gesture. It's a statement about what sweetness can do when it has the structure to back it up.
What makes Of the Immortals work is its refusal to stay in one place. The top is unapologetically sweet, rum, honey, and coffee create a warm blast that could tip into cloying if not for the sea salt cutting through. That salt is the crucial counterweight. It doesn't diminish the sweetness; it sharpens it. The heart brings coconut and fig, which feel almost creamy against the praline and jasmine absolute. Cashmere wood and tonka bean add a softness that keeps the whole thing from feeling heavy. By the time the sandalwood and oud arrive, the fragrance has earned its weight, sweet but structured, warm but never flat.
The evolution
The opening lands fast, rum and honey upfront, with bergamot brightening the edges and sea salt adding a strange, compelling intrigue. Coffee lingers in the background, not roasting so much as sweet. That first hour is the boldest part. By hour two, the coconut and fig emerge, softened by jasmine absolute and praline. The heart is warm and slightly floral, but never girlish, the cashmere wood keeps it grounded. Around hour three, the base takes over. Sandalwood and vanilla become the foreground, with oud and amber adding depth that shifts the whole composition toward something darker, more resinous. Musk stays close to the skin. The drydown holds for another five to seven hours after that, intimate and warm, present without announcing itself.
Cultural impact
Of the Immortals occupies a specific space in the niche fragrance landscape: sweet oriental vanilla for those who want richness without loudness. The 2022 release arrived at a moment when gourmand fragrances were expanding beyond their comfort zone, and this one holds its own through structural honesty. Respected by enthusiasts for its consistency, the fragrance maintains a loyal following despite limited availability. The moderate sillage suits the fragrance's restrained confidence.
