The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Tory Burch built her brand over years, developing a distinct point of view that resonated with a wide audience. While the fashion house expanded across categories, fragrance remained unexplored. In 2015, she finally turned her attention to scent, working with IFF and Estée Lauder to create her debut fragrance. The collaboration brought together expertise in fragrance development with an intimate understanding of the brand's aesthetic. The result was a fragrance meant to capture the essence of the label in liquid form, something that could translate the visual identity into something you could wear close to your skin. A scent that felt true to the world Tory Burch had built, offering a new way to experience the brand.
What makes this debut work is the balance in its heart. White florals, jasmine, tuberose, can easily overwhelm, but here they're held in check by carrot seed, which adds a subtle green undertone that keeps everything grounded. The mimosa does the heavy lifting: creamy without being cloying, warm without being sweet. Paired with the cedar and sandalwood base, the florals never float away. They stay close to the skin, intimate and present, the whole time.
The evolution
First minutes: grapefruit and mandarin arrive together, tart, bright, a little sharp. The pink pepper keeps things interesting, a subtle tingle beneath the citrus. Blackcurrant adds a dark undertone. Ten minutes in, the florals begin to push through. Jasmine announces itself first, then tuberose, but the mimosa and peony take over the conversation. The citrus fades as the florals cream up. Another twenty minutes and the cedar arrives, smoothing everything into a warm woody register. White musk softens the landing. The drydown is clean and intimate, cedar, sandalwood, vetiver, close to the skin. The sillage stays moderate and the fragrance wears close to the skin throughout its development, creating an impression that remains with you throughout the day.
Cultural impact
Tory Burch debuted her first fragrance in 2015, created in partnership with IFF and Estée Lauder. The white floral and woody composition offered something different in the fragrance landscape, a scent that felt approachable yet distinctive. The combination of bright citrus opening with creamy florals and a warm woody base created a balanced composition that wore well across different settings. The projection remains moderate throughout wear, present enough to be noticed by those nearby without being overwhelming.
