The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Daring Rose is one of five scents in Tory Burch's Essence of Dreams collection, launched in 2024. The collection drew on exclusive Middle Eastern ingredients, a deliberate choice to bring global depth to the brand's fragrance line. The brief was clear: desire, distilled. A rose that wasn't soft or polite. Perfumers Honorine Blanc and Hamid Merati-Kashani worked with DSM-Firmenich to translate that ambition into something that felt both luxurious and alive. Rich red rose and velvety violet leaves anchored by opulent cashmere wood and vetiver, the official description says it plainly, but the execution is anything but simple.
The tension in Daring Rose comes from pairing two contrasting worlds. Saffron and cypriol oil open with something dark, almost smoky, the Nagarmotha brings an earthy, almost leathery character that sets up the rose rather than softening it. That Damask rose doesn't arrive delicate. It arrives opulent, cushioned by violet leaf's cool green undertone. The cashmere wood in the base is the real move, a newer perfumery material that reads creamier, softer than traditional sandalwood, giving the drydown warmth without heaviness. Vetiver grounds everything, keeping the rose earthbound even as it blooms.
The evolution
The opening is immediate. Saffron and cypriol oil hit first, that metallic, almost smoky punch that announces itself without apology. It lasts longer than expected, maybe twenty minutes, before the rose begins to assert itself. Not a gentle unfurling. The Damask rose arrives full, rich, cushioned by violet leaf's cool green undertone. There's an ozonic quality here, that dewy, slightly aquatic note that keeps the rose from reading as romantic. As it moves into the heart, the warmth builds. Cashmere wood and vetiver take over slowly, wrapping everything in a creamy, earthy drydown that stays close to the skin. Moderate sillage means it won't fill a room, but it won't disappear either. On fabric, the vetiver lingers into the next day, that earthy, slightly smoky trace that reminds you it was there.
Cultural impact
Daring Rose lands in a crowded rose market but carves its own space, the Essence of Dreams collection's Middle Eastern ingredients give it a depth that sets it apart from conventional florals. The smoky, earthy character appeals to wearers who want rose without the usual sweetness.
