The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Parfum Royale arrived as part of Roja Dove's exploration of pure parfum concentration, the most concentrated form of fragrance, where every molecule counts. Launched in 2016, this limited edition sits at the intersection of rose and leather, with an animalic spice that pushes past safe. It was discontinued, which means the people who found it either loved it fiercely or never forgot it. Either way, it's become the kind of fragrance that collectors ask about in whispers.
What makes #2 distinctive is the combination of canary islands juniper with cumin, a pairing that creates a sharp, almost gin-like quality that cuts through the sweetness. This isn't a linear rose. It's a conversation between brightness and darkness, with coconut adding an unexpected tropical warmth that could read as sunscreen in a weaker composition but here serves as a bridge between the citruses and the deep base. The immortelle adds that honeyed, slightly medicinal quality that's become a signature of the Parfum Royale line.
The evolution
The citrus opening hits quick and clean, bergamot and lemon for maybe 30 minutes before the florals arrive. May rose and jasmine step forward alongside blackcurrant, and then the immortelle appears. That's the pivot point. From here, the fragrance moves into its old-fashioned territory, the violet adding powder, the ylang-ylang adding cream. The drydown is where this lives or dies: cumin arrives with intention, leather follows, and the labdanum wraps everything in smoked resin. On fabric, this lasts past 10 hours. On skin, expect 8-10 depending on your chemistry. The next morning, the oakmoss and patchouli are still there, close and warm.
Cultural impact
Wearers describe it as the fragrance of someone who walks into a room and doesn't need to announce themselves. Discontinued production has only increased its appeal among collectors seeking something that cannot be replaced. The fragrance commands a loyal following among enthusiasts who appreciate its distinctive character.
