The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
La Petite Mort is Pigmentarium's 2025 collaboration with Slovak singer Adam Pavlovčin, known professionally as Adonxs. The fragrance was conceived and creatively directed by Adonxs himself, a detail that signals how closely this project was shaped by the artist's own sensibility. The result is a citrus-woody composition built around bergamot sharpened by juniper and pepper, a deliberate first move before the florals even arrive. That opening sets the stage for a composition that prioritises contrast: the bright snap of citrus against the warm grain of cedar, the cool resin of juniper against the soft lift of white florals waiting below. It is a limited release, vegan, and unapologetically composed for a moment rather than a season.
The pyramid opens with five ingredients working in concert, bergamot for lift, black and pink pepper for snap, juniper for that resinous bite, Texas cedar for grain. These top notes do not behave as a polite introduction. They announce themselves with the kind of confidence that makes you check your wrist twice in quick succession. As the citrus begins to settle, the floral heart takes over, and here the composition makes its boldest choice. Geranium, jasmine, orange blossom, and rose form a dense, luminous cluster that sits beneath the peppery top with surprising weight.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to the top. Bergamot arrives cold and immediate, sliced open and dripping. Black pepper and juniper muscle in within seconds, giving the citrus a bruised edge. Pink pepper adds a sweet, almost fruity flicker. Texas cedar sits underneath it all, already warming the floor. By the first hour, the white florals take over. Jasmine rises with a creamy softness, then orange blossom smooths the edges into something bright and lifted. Rose and geranium arrive together, powdery and green, creating that classic soapy-luminous effect the heart is built for. The citrus fades to a memory, a bright residue on the collar that still catches the light when you move. Hours three through six are the base's territory. Ambergris gives a salty, animal warmth. Frankincense adds a church-cool resin. The oud here is quiet, more shadow than statement.
Cultural impact
La Petite Mort is Pigmentarium's collaboration with Slovak singer Adam Pavlovčin, known professionally as Adonxs, who conceived and creatively directed the project. The partnership reflects an exchange between two creative practices, with the artist's hand evident in how the composition moves, from the bold citrus-woody opening through the dense floral heart and into the resinous base. The release is positioned as a creative work in its own right, where music and scent share the same room and trade textures.
