Coffee as a base note is unusual. It usually plays in the top or heart, fleeting, bright. Here, it anchors the entire drydown, dark and roasted, holding firm while leather and charred wood build around it. The licorice in the opening is the real surprise: sharp, almost medicinal, it announces itself without apology and lingers through the heart like a memorable conversation. Cardamom warms without spice. Tonka bean and vanilla sweeten just enough to keep everything in balance. It's a composition that wears its intelligence on the surface but its warmth underneath.

The evolution

The opening hits bright. Bergamot and mandarin orange make the first impression, clean, Italian, immediate. Licorice arrives quickly, surprising in its sharpness. Ten minutes in, the citrus begins its slow exit while pink pepper keeps the air alive. Then the heart takes over. Coffee and leather announce themselves firmly, refusing to wait. Orange blossom softens the edges, but leather is the main event. By the third hour, vanilla and tonka bean wrap around charred wood. Labdanum adds a resinous, smoky depth that rounds everything out. The dry-down is warm and intimate, lingering close to the skin with quiet persistence.
