Narciso Nobile

What makes this composition worth a second look is the pairing of narcissus with osmanthus. Both are dense, indolic, and richly floral, but they lean in different directions. Narcissus brings a green, almost metallic sharpness, the smell of crushed stems and bruised petals. Osmanthus brings apricot-like warmth, a soft, almost edible fruitiness that keeps the narcissus from going austere. Layered with rose and jasmine, the heart becomes a white-floral wall, but the green and fruity edges prevent it from collapsing into sweetness. The top notes add a modern frame.

The evolution

The first fifteen minutes belong to the fruit. Plum and bergamot hit together, sweet and sharp, with lily of the valley threading green through the sweetness like a stem through a bunch of grapes. It reads almost like a cocktail, bright and inviting. Then the heart takes over, and the personality shifts. Narcissus arrives with its green, almost peppery edge, while jasmine and rose pile on density. Osmanthus softens the blow with apricot warmth, but the narcissus keeps pushing forward.
