Verônica Kato designed Essencial Ato as a statement in scent. "Ato" means act or deed in Portuguese, something decisive, intentional, done with purpose. The brief was clear: capture the intensity and elegance of the contemporary Brazilian man, not through aggressive projection but through depth. A fragrance that arrives with quiet authority and stays because it earns its place. Launched in 2023, it enters Natura's lineup as a woody-spicy composition that draws from the brand's botanical heritage while feeling unmistakably modern. The name itself is the concept: an essential act, stripped of excess, built around what matters.
What makes this composition unusual is the inclusion of Priprioca, a rhizome native to the Amazon basin that carries an earthy, mineral quality rarely found in mainstream perfumery. Most fragrances in this category lean on familiar citrus openings or rely on synthetic aquatic accords for freshness. Here, the Priprioca sets a different tone, rooty, grounded, distinctly Brazilian. It's paired with Pataqueira, another Amazonian botanical, creating an opening that feels both modern and rooted in place. The heart layers Redwood Flower with Jasmine Sambac and Osmanthus, introducing white florals that soften the earthiness without replacing it.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with the Priprioca's mineral-earthy signature, sharpened by Black Pepper and brightened by Bergamot. Cardamom adds a clean heat underneath. This phase lasts roughly 30 to 45 minutes before the florals begin to surface. The heart takes over gradually, Redwood Flower and Jasmine Sambac arrive together, with Osmanthus adding a peachy sweetness that rounds the edges. Solar Notes keep the heart feeling sunlit rather than heavy. By the second hour, the base begins its slow reveal. Sandalwood and Cedar emerge first, warm and creamy, followed by the drier presence of Guaiac Wood and Vetiver. The Amber holds everything together, keeping the drydown close to the skin without fading prematurely. On most skin types, expect 4 to 6 hours of wear with moderate sillage, the kind of presence that stays in a room after you've left it.
