The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Maliha sits inside Nabeel's broader catalogue, a house with a long working life in regional perfumery. The brand built its name on concentrated oil compositions drawn from Arabian raw materials, a tradition that runs deep in the Gulf, and over the years it has released a wide portfolio of fragrances that include Shahrezad and Irth among other pieces. Maliha fits squarely into the floral-woody corner of that catalogue, a women's-leaning composition built around rose, hyacinth, and a layered green-aromatic heart. The opening carries a cool, almost herbal snap from the lavender and the green facets of hyacinth, lifted by the bright citrus peel of bergamot and lemon before the florals settle into their real shape.
What makes Maliha worth a second look is the density of its herbal and floral top: bergamot, hyacinth, lavender, lemon, iris, saffron, rose, and ylang-ylang all arrive together, and then the heart does something more restrained. Clary sage and geranium cool the temperature rather than heat it, while tuberose and a second pass of rose carry the floral weight. The base is where the composition finds its nerve. Oakmoss, patchouli, vetiver, cedar, and sandalwood give it a mossy, slightly bitter floor that keeps the flowers from floating off.
The evolution
The opening feels distinctly two-handed. One hand holds lavender and hyacinth outward; the other pushes bergamot and lemon like a window cracked open in a warm room. The iris is noticeable early, cool and slightly powdery, giving the florals a grey-lilac cast before saffron warms the edges. The heart pivots as the composition moves past its first impressions. Rose and tuberose arrive with real presence, but they're wrapped in clary sage and geranium that keep them from tipping into jam. Nutmeg adds a quiet bite underneath, barely registering as a spice but enough to keep the heart alert. The vanilla here behaves more like a smoothing agent than a sweetness, polishing the rose-sage-geranium junction and lending a soft, creamy undertone that ties the floral and herbal elements together.
Cultural impact
Maliha by Nabeel carries a recognizable signature rooted in two ingredients with deep ties to regional perfumery traditions: saffron, which lends a warm, leathery spice to the opening and the heart, and ylang-ylang, whose creamy, slightly fruity depth softens the floral accord. Together they give the fragrance a character that feels both familiar to anyone acquainted with Gulf perfumery and distinct enough to stand apart within Nabeel's broader catalogue.
