The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name comes from a Roman moment. When Cicero condemned the Catilinarian conspirators to death, his single word was "Vixere", they had lived. Not a boast. Not a threat. A simple statement that they existed, that they mattered, even in their ending. Perfumer Sofia Bardelli built Vixere around this paradox: the fullness of a life acknowledged in the moment it ends. The fragrance celebrates living, indulgence as defiance, pleasure as proof of existence. The creamy floral heart, Mediterranean citrus, seductive powdery base: all of it designed to say "I was here."
The white floral heart is where Vixere earns its name. Iris root brings that powdery, slightly woody quality rare in modern perfumery, it takes years to mature, and it demands patience from both perfumer and wearer. Jasmine sambac adds exotic richness, while heliotrope contributes an almond-soft roundness that pulls everything together. The real skill is in the blending, nothing competes, nothing shouts. The vanilla and tonka bean in the base are warm without being heavy. The sandalwood and patchouli give depth without dragging the composition into darkness.
The evolution
The opening is a Mediterranean burst. Bergamot, grapefruit, mandarin, orange blossom, all arriving together in a sparkling, effervescent wave that demands attention. No subtlety in the first minutes. The ylang-ylang follows quickly, slightly narcotic, tropical. The citrus retreats but doesn't vanish, it lingers beneath, a continuing warmth. The heart takes over around 20 minutes in. Jasmine, gardenia, and a whisper of violet emerge slowly, blending with the ylang-ylang into something creamy and deliberate. Iris enters with its powdery signature, followed by heliotrope adding softness. The florals dominate the next several hours, intimate, warm, slightly vintage in feel. The drydown settles into powder. Iris and heliotrope anchor the composition. Vanilla and tonka bean provide warmth, sandalwood adds creaminess, amber and patchouli give depth without heaviness. Musk stays close to the skin, intimate and persistent.
Cultural impact
Vixere presents a refined take on niche perfumery, bringing vintage sophistication into a contemporary context. The powdery iris and creamy floral character reference an older tradition of perfumery, one built on subtlety and nuance rather than bold statements. This is a fragrance that asks to be discovered rather than announced, rewarding the wearer who appreciates quiet complexity over obvious impact. The composition bridges historical craft with modern sensibilities, creating something that feels both timeless and relevant.
