The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dark Tales was founded in 2019 on Sweden's Åland Islands, a place where folklore and everyday rituals intertwine naturally. Mojito emerged as the olfactory counterpart to the classic Cuban cocktail, a homage to the unhurried feeling of summer evenings. In 2025 perfumer Arina P. Franzén translated that spirit into scent, drawing on the fresh zest of lemon verbena and lime, the cooling rush of mint, and a hint of ginger's bite.
The note structure balances freshness with depth: citrus and herbs create an immediate cooling effect, while cucumber and green notes bridge the opening to the base with a clean, watery quality. White rum and sugar cane anchor the drydown with warmth and sweetness that contrast with the crisp top notes, keeping the fragrance from feeling overly light on the skin. Tonka bean adds a touch of creamy richness that prevents the drydown from becoming too austere, and musk ensures the scent remains close and personal rather than loud and projecting.
The evolution
The scent begins with lemon verbena and lime creating a bright, citrus-forward impression that feels like the first sip through a straw. Mint and ginger sweep in almost immediately, adding herbal coolness and a gentle warmth that keeps the opening from feeling too delicate. The heart develops with cucumber bringing a clean, aquatic coolness that complements the herbs, while basil and rosemary layer in a savory, almost garden-like depth. As the drydown takes over, white rum introduces a soft, warm booziness that blends seamlessly with sugar cane sweetness and the creamy embrace of tonka bean. Musk grounds everything, leaving a subtle, Intimate trail that lingers well beyond the initial spray.
Cultural impact
Since its 2025 launch, Mojito has become a cult favourite among niche collectors who chase cocktail‑inspired aromas. The Pin‑Up Mixology line positions the scent as a summer staple, often mentioned in forums alongside other drink‑themed releases. Its balanced herb‑citrus‑rum blend appeals to both unisex wearers, making it a go‑to for beach parties, rooftop bars and casual brunches, while its limited‑edition status fuels a modest buzz among fragrance hunters.
