999 Ghosts arrived in 2025 as part of Dark Tales' Halloween Collection, a limited release built around the brand's approach of turning folklore and horror literature into scented stories. The perfumer is Arina P. Franzén, who serves as the brand's creative lead. Instead of leaning on any geographic imprint, Franzén turned toward something more interior: the chill of an empty house that isn't quite empty, the ozone-and-static register that flickers between electrical and spectral. The fragrance is a floral aldehyde at heart, but its design borrows the grammar of ghost stories. It doesn't explain. It sets a room and waits to see who stays.
What makes 999 Ghosts structurally unusual is the collision of two opposing scent families. The aldehydes, white grapefruit, and electro-static accord sit in the same cold, synthetic register, bright and slightly metallic, a chill that registers almost immediately on skin. The heart pulls the opposite direction: orchid, iris, lily of the valley, and frankincense add weight and dimension, grounding the opening's brightness with something softer, denser, and more contemplative.
