Angela Ciampagna launched Materia in 2018 as part of her De Vita line, inspired by her desire to bottle the tactile sensation of raw materials. Having transitioned from ghost nose work to establishing her own studio in Atri, she crafted this fragrance as a meditation on the physical properties of perfume ingredients themselves. The choice of balsamic and woody notes as an opening references the raw resins she had been handling in her formulation work.
The note selection reflects Ciampagna's philosophy of treating fragrance as material exploration. Balsamic notes serve as her tribute to traditional perfumery materials, while the addition of metallic notes signals her willingness to experiment with unconventional accords.
