Where much of the brand's catalog leans contemplative and rooted, Laetitia turned toward something rare: unapologetic brightness. The De Vita collection positions this fragrance as a tribute to a lighter tradition, the kind of joyful, sun-soaked compositions that older Italian perfumery reserved for hot afternoons and the simple pleasure of something sweet. Ciampagna built it around cyclamen and aquatic notes, then let them collapse into a heart of watermelon and melon. The intent was transparency, something that doesn't announce itself so much as dissolve into the warmth of the skin and the day.
The interesting choice here is maltol, a molecule usually buried in gourmand bases where it adds a cotton-candy warmth. Here it's pulled to the surface, the backbone under the watermelon. It does the heavy lifting, giving the aquatic top its edible sweetness without leaning into the brown, bready character maltol usually delivers. Pair that with a clean white musk, and you get something that smells less like fruit and more like the memory of fruit, cooled water, sticky fingers, a garden in August.
The evolution
The first ten minutes feel like stepping out of a cold shower into warm air. Aquatic notes and cyclamen arrive almost simultaneously, the cyclamen adding a faint green, soapy flicker to the clean water. The watermelon shows up faster than expected, within the first few minutes, and it dominates the first hour. There's no real top-note separation here, no citrus brightness giving way to a structured heart. It's flat in the best sense, a single sustained chord of pulpy, almost-candy sweetness that sits close to the skin. Around the two-hour mark the musk begins to take over, and the fruitiness recedes into something warmer and more skin-like. The maltol is most visible in the drydown, lending a soft, sugary warmth that never turns gourmand. By hour four it's a skin scent, a faint sweetness with a clean, slightly powdery musk underneath.
