Zafferano arrived in 2022 as part of Acqua di Parma's Signatures of the Sun collection. This was not a reissue of an archive piece. It was commissioned originally for Harrods, then folded into the broader Signatures line, where it stands as a golden, sun-warmed composition that complements the cooler citrus fragrances the house built its reputation on. On skin, Zafferano opens with a bright trio of Italian citrus, bergamot, mandarin, and orange, that lift immediately into saffron threads woven through the heart. The saffron here reads more like sunlight on warm stone than like the dense, resinous interpretations found in heavier oriental compositions.
What makes Zafferano structurally interesting is the conversation between citrus and saffron that runs through the entire composition. The spice sits in the heart of the fragrance rather than anchoring the bottom, which keeps the top notes alive far longer than expected. The bergamot, mandarin, and orange do not just decorate the opening. The evolution
