Michel Almairac chose a citrus-forward structure to honor Acqua di Parma's heritage while giving the heart and base room to develop complexity. The inclusion of clove and white musk reflects a philosophy that Cologne does not have to mean fleeting simplicity. The pairing of petitgrain with the citrus array creates a more textured opening than bergamot alone, and the patchouli-vetiver drydown grounds the experience in a way that feels contemporary rather than antiquated. This is a Cologne that respects tradition while refusing to be constrained by it.

The evolution

The fragrance begins with a bright, almost effervescent citrus opening where neroli and petitgrain weave through sharp bergamot, lemon, and grapefruit, softened by mandarin and orange. This initial wave is clean, radiant, and unmistakably in the Cologne tradition. As the first thirty minutes pass, the citrus softens and the heart emerges: rosemary introduces an herbal, slightly medicinal freshness before clove adds a warm, spiced dimension. Jasmine and rose bring creamy floralcy, and lily of the valley contributes a cool, green accent. By the third hour, white musk and amber create a warm, enveloping base while patchouli and vetiver add earthy, smoky depth that lingers close to the skin.
