The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
ZARKOPERFUME was founded in Denmark in 2014 with a molecule-first philosophy that prizes precision over nostalgia. By 2023, founder Zarko Ahlmann Pavlov had turned his attention skyward, specifically toward the quality of light found in a Scandinavian sunset. Rather than chasing warmth directly, he built Cloud Collection No 4 around contrasts that feel like the shift from late afternoon to dusk. The opening bursts with fruit and citrus, the heart cools into aquatic and coconut territory, and the base anchors everything in soft musk and vanilla with enough cedarwood to keep it clean. Each layer reflects a different moment of light.
The blackberry and yuzu pairing in the opening serves a specific purpose: they create immediate brightness without relying on standard citrus or floral conventions. Pink and black pepper reinforce the spice, giving the top notes staying power. In the heart, black tea was chosen as a counterbalance to coconut, keeping the tropical element from becoming literal. The drydown leans on Dreamwood and Cashmeran, both of which ZARKOPERFUME uses for their ability to extend warmth without overwhelming, allowing musk and vanilla to remain present but controlled.
The evolution
The fragrance moves in a clear arc from bright to cool to warm. Opening with blackberry, yuzu, lemon, pink pepper, and black pepper, it presents a tart, slightly spicy introduction that reads immediately energizing. As the top notes fade over the first thirty minutes, the heart emerges: aquatic notes and coconut blend with black tea and orange, while white orchid and jasmine add soft floral structure. This mid-section is where the fragrance earns its name, feeling open and slightly airy. The drydown follows slowly, introducing musk and vanilla as a warm foundation, Dreamwood and Cashmeran for tactile softness, and cedarwood to add contrast and prevent the blend from becoming too sweet.
Cultural impact
Since its 2023 debut, Cloud 4 has been noted for translating the brand’s scientific aesthetic into a wearable glow, attracting collectors who appreciate the blend of crisp Nordic citrus with a warm, amber‑tinged cloud. Its balanced sillage and moderate longevity make it a quiet favorite for those seeking a subtle yet distinctive signature.
