The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Magnolia & Fig arrived in 2022, bringing together two notes that feel inherently linked. Fig brings the green, the slightly milky sweetness of the fruit; magnolia brings the bloom, the petals unfurling in late afternoon warmth. Together they capture something essential about the brand's philosophy, nature made refined, everyday life made a little more elegant. The combination weaves together the crispness of the garden with a soft, inviting sweetness that lingers in memory, evoking sun-warmed skin and the quiet pleasure of stepping into a room that smells of fresh florals and ripe fruit.
The fig note in this composition is greener, closer to the leaf than the fruit, which keeps the opening from cloying. Jasmine sambac in the heart adds a slightly animal sweetness, but it's tempered by vetiver's earthy coolness. The base features guaiac wood and patchouli, which ground the florals without turning heavy. The result is a composed drydown that smells like skin, only better.
The evolution
The opening arrives crisp, bergamot and blackcurrant bright against the green fig. Almost soapy in the best Yardley tradition, it then opens to reveal jasmine and magnolia emerging, softer than expected, more cream than blossom. Vetiver adds an earthy counterweight that prevents the florals from floating away entirely. Guaiac wood's subtle smokiness meets patchouli's warm earth in the foundation. It settles close to the skin, present when you move, quieter when you stand still.
Cultural impact
Magnolia & Fig has found its audience among those seeking something refined. It occupies a particular sweet spot: floral enough to feel feminine, woody enough to feel grounded. The fragrance offers daylong wearability and manages to feel both modern and timeless, appealing to wearers who appreciate understated elegance.
