The beginning
Double Dare arrived in 2015 as the sophomore chapter in Guess's Dare narrative, following the original Dare and its limited edition earlier that year. Where the first Dare asked a question, Double Dare doubles down on the answer. The campaign, shot by Yu Tsai, featured models Megan Williams and Natasha Bernard in imagery that carried the same provocative energy Guess deploys across every touchpoint, confident, direct, a little theatrical. The name itself is a dare, and the fragrance plays the part.
The ozonic and green synthetic accords in Double Dare are what give it lift without lightness. They're the structural choice that keeps the sweet fruity-floral heart from pulling the composition toward saccharine. Think of them as the architecture that lets the strawberry opening breathe and the vanilla drydown glow. These aren't accidental notes, they're the decision that separates a daily-wear fruity floral from something that feels like costume jewelry.
The evolution
The opening is immediate: strawberry's bright sweetness, lychee's syrupy edge, mandarin's citrus pop. All three arrive together, bouncing off each other like a conversation that hasn't found its topic yet. Within twenty minutes, the lychee settles and the jasmine takes over, rich, slightly indolic, with lily of the valley keeping the air clean and violet leaf adding a green metallic flicker. The hand-off is where most fragrances show their hand. Double Dare's is smooth, almost invisible. The drydown is where amber, vanilla, and vetiver settle in for the long haul.
