The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Semi-Bespoke collection sits at the top of ROJA London's hierarchy. Created by Roja Dove himself and available exclusively through the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie at Harrods, these are not fragrances you stumble upon. Each release is produced in an extremely limited run of fifty numbered bottles at 250ml, and with each purchase, the buyer's name is recorded for future refills. No. 10 continues this tradition of intimate exclusivity: a composition that takes the house's hallmark opulence and distills it into something that feels less like a fragrance and more like a conversation between wearer and perfumer, started in Mayfair and finished on skin.
The structure is unusual. Aldehydes don't typically share space with peach and coriander, the former suggests vintage couture, the latter suggest something riper, more immediate. But No. 10 makes the pairing work by letting them argue. The aldehydes open cool and precise. The peach softens their edge. The coriander adds a green bite that keeps everything honest. It's the kind of combination that sounds like it shouldn't work until you smell it and realize it always should have existed.
The evolution
The opening arrives in two waves. First, the aldehydes, bright, cold, a little metallic, like biting into a sugar cube at a black-tie event. Underneath, mandarin orange and star anise keep things from getting precious. Then, within twenty minutes, peach arrives. Soft and full, it doesn't fight the aldehydes, it fills the spaces between them. By the second hour, violet and ylang-ylang take over. The florals are warm without being heavy, cream without being sweet. The drydown is where No. 10 earns its Extrait classification. Frankincense and myrrh arrive together, resinous and deep. Vanilla and ambergris add warmth that clings. Sandalwood and cedar hold everything steady underneath. The final hours belong to iris, powdery, slightly violet, clean against the resins. On fabric, it lingers into the next day.
Cultural impact
Semi-Bespoke No. 10 occupies a unique position in contemporary perfumery as a deliberate bridge between vintage elegance and modern taste. The aldehyde-forward opening pays homage to the Chanel No. 5 and Givenchy L'Interdit era, while the fruity warmth and substantial projection reflect current enthusiast preferences for distinctive, long-lasting scents. Its 2011 launch coincided with a niche fragrance boom, positioning ROJA London as a house that prioritized exclusivity over commercial reach. Limited to 50 numbered bottles per fragrance, the Semi-Bespoke collection has become a collector's benchmark for what haute perfumery represents in the 21st century.
