The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Released in 2025 as part of MUCHA's Holiday Collection, Chocolat Idéal 1897, Cherry Chocolate arrives at the intersection of two long-standing obsessions in fragrance: the liqueur-glass sweetness of amaretto and cherry, and the brooding warmth of dark cocoa. The opening is pure amaretto and cherry with a dusting of nutmeg, a boozy, almost cocktail-glass sweetness that announces itself with confidence. Then the chocolate arrives, not the milky kind but something darker, richer, with a bitter edge that cuts through the sugar. It's a gourmand that refuses to behave like candy, and that's where the interest lives. The composition leans into indulgence without losing its composure, the kind of scent that feels decadent on a cold afternoon and equally at home after dinner. Sweet, certainly.
Benzoin plays a quietly essential role in this composition, wrapping the chocolate in a resinous, honeyed warmth that stops the whole thing from tipping into pure confection. It adds a sticky, almost candied dimension that feels like burnt sugar caught at the right moment. Rose appears in the heart, a brief but deliberate floral lift that keeps the cocoa from collapsing under its own weight. The amaretto-cherry opening, with nutmeg threading through, gives Cherry Chocolate its liqueur-soaked personality before the chocolate even arrives.
The evolution
The first 30 minutes belong to amaretto and cherry, with nutmeg flickering underneath like the spice dusting on a cocktail glass. There's an almost syrupy warmth here, boozy and direct, and for a while it feels like the fragrance is content to stay there, letting the liqueur note soak into everything. Then the chocolate arrives, rich and resinous, with benzoin wrapping around it like smoke curling off a warm drink. The rose surfaces briefly, a surprising floral note in a composition this dense, and it actually works, brightening the heart just enough to keep things from suffocating under the sweetness. By the two-hour mark, the cherry has mellowed and the cocoa is doing the heavy lifting. The drydown is where the real patience pays off: amber, vanilla, and musk settle into a warm, almost skin-like haze, with patchouli threading underneath to keep it from going pure sugar.
Cultural impact
Cherry Chocolate arrived in 2025 as part of MUCHA's Holiday Collection, Chocolat Idéal 1897, a line that draws on the visual heritage of late-19th-century decorative art and its confectionery-era sensibility. The composition folds together amaretto, cherry, nutmeg, benzoin, rose, dark cocoa, amber, vanilla, musk, and patchouli into a gourmand that feels both nostalgic and freshly composed. The collection's title carries a date, 1897, a number that anchors the release in a moment when ornament and indulgence shared the same cultural vocabulary.
