Incense Oud

The evolution

The opening hits sharp and almost clinical. Saffron and bergamot arrive first, bright and slightly astringent, like the first breath of cold air. Then the cypriol and orange introduce an unexpected warmth, a flicker of something floral beneath the citrus. The heart takes over as the composition moves forward. The frankincense arrives as smoke, not the roaring kind, but something measured and sacred. Cedarwood adds dry texture, a slight sweetness beneath the bark. Then jasmine arrives, indolic and unexpected, threading through the smoke to keep the heart from becoming austere. By the time the base arrives, it does not let go. Leather and oud form a dense, resinous warmth that deepens with every passing hour. Vetiver keeps it grounded in damp earth, patchouli adds a bitter sweet finish.
