The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dom Rosa was conceived for the Eaux Sanguines, a trilogy exploring the paradox of blood and water as life and vitality forces. Sonia Constant translated the concept of rose champagne into a fragrance that effervesces rather than darkens. The name itself is the concept: wine and flower, merged into something luminous and celebratory.
In Dom Rosa, the champagne note is the whole point. The aldehydic quality creates genuine effervescence, not a synthetic simulation. Grapefruit sharpens the citrus brightness while pear softens into fruitiness. The heart features Damask rose guided by cloves and frankincense, which add warmth and resinous depth rather than letting the rose stand alone. The base of cedar, vetiver, and guaiac wood brings dry, woody warmth that complements rather than competes. What makes this structure work is that it respects the metaphor: rose and champagne as one concept, not two notes layered together.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright and effervescent. Champagne bubbles meet grapefruit's citrus sharpness while pear keeps the top warm and approachable. There's a moment of pure sparkle before the aldehydic lift settles into something rounder. The heart develops slowly. Damask rose emerges with cloves adding warmth and frankincense bringing a hint of resinous depth. The transition isn't dramatic, but it shifts from celebration to intimacy. The drydown is where Dom Rosa earns its keep. Woody notes of cedar, vetiver, and guaiac wood settle close to the skin, dry and slightly smoky. The rose lingers underneath, quieter now, present but not pushing. On most skin types, the full arc runs six to eight hours, with the drydown holding close for hours after the main event fades.
Cultural impact
Dom Rosa was released in 2013 as part of Liquides Imaginaires' Eaux Sanguines collection, which explores the relationship between blood and water as symbols of life and vitality. The fragrance represented a bold departure from conventional rose compositions, introducing an aldehydic quality that evokes effervescence and celebration. This unconventional approach positioned Dom Rosa as a cult favorite among niche fragrance enthusiasts, challenging traditional perfumery conventions and influencing subsequent rose-based fragrance development within the niche perfume market.
