The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dominique Ropion created this flanker to Lancôme's beloved Trésor, released in 2014 as a softer, more transparent interpretation of the original. The original Treasor's bottle had become an icon, its faceted design catching light in a way that felt both modern and timeless. This version kept the spirit but lightened the load, translating the essence for skin that wanted warmth without weight, sweetness without heaviness. Ropion didn't reinvent the formula, he reimagined it for those moments when you want the soul of the original but prefer something a little more ethereal. The flanker carries the same emotional core while wearing like a whisper rather than a declaration.
The milk makes the difference. In a formula that could have leaned entirely on powdery rose and warm vanilla, the lactonic note adds a creamy quality that softens every edge. Combined with tonka bean, it creates a base that doesn't project, it settles. Heliotrope reinforces the powder without making it dusty. And Egyptian jasmine absolute, rather than a more common jasmine, brings a richer, more textured floral depth to the heart. Nutmeg whispers at the edges rather than announcing itself. This is the flanker that understands restraint.
The evolution
The opening arrives quickly, bergamot and peach giving a bright, dewy start. The bergamot brings a sparkling quality while the peach keeps things soft and inviting. Within minutes, the Damask rose begins to arrive, but it doesn't take over. It threads through the citrus, making the top notes feel warmer, more familiar. The heliotrope shows itself early, adding that powdery undertone that keeps everything grounded and connected. By the heart, the rose is fully present, creamier now, softened by sandalwood and heliotrope. The jasmine adds body without weight, giving the middle notes a full but airy quality. Violet keeps it delicate, ensuring the floral heart never becomes too heavy or saturated. This is where the fragrance lives, in this smooth transition from bright opening to intimate finish. The base arrives quietly. Musk and tonka bean come forward first, warm and sweet.
Cultural impact
This flanker takes the original Treasor's spirit and offers it in a more approachable register. The milk and tonka bean combination gives it a creamy signature that sets it apart, creating something that feels distinctly different from simply adding fruit to an existing composition. It's the kind of flanker that rewards attention, showing how a familiar fragrance can be reframed through a different concentration and set of accords. The result is a scent that feels both connected to its source and entirely its own thing.
