Why it exists.
The beginning
Relax Eau de White Floral landed in 2012 as part of Jill Stuart's expanding body and fragrance universe, arriving alongside the brand's Relax body care collection that September. The name does what it says. This is a scent built around calm, around the exhale after a long week, dressed in white florals and sun-warmed fruit. Jill Stuart had been building a portfolio that leaned into soft femininity and pastel optimism. Relax continued that thread, but lighter, more casual, designed to layer with bath products from the same line and linger through a quiet weekend. The cologne concentration reinforces the intent: a lightweight format meant to freshen the skin without smothering it, carrying that bright floral-fruity mood wherever the day wanders.
What makes the composition distinctive is the sheer generosity of its opening. Eight top notes stack citrus and fruit into something almost like a glass of cold punch with crushed berries floating on top. The heart then pulls back the sweetness with a wall of white florals, lily and jasmine and orange blossom, accented by the herbal snap of rosemary and basil. That herb-floral pairing keeps it from drifting into pure dessert territory. The base stays modest: vetiver, musk, amber, cedar.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are all fruit. Big strawberry leads the charge, sweet and almost jammy, but the citrus keeps it honest: bergamot, grapefruit, lime, orange all slicing through the sugar like cold water poured over ripe berries. Peach softens the edges. It smells like a fruit bowl left in a sunny window. By the 30-minute mark, the citruses recede and the white florals take over. Jasmine and orange blossom arrive first, creamy and warm, followed by lily and lily of the valley, which add a green-soapy quality that keeps things from going cloying. Rosemary and basil flicker in and out, herbal sparks in an otherwise soft composition. The rose is faint, more suggestion than statement. Two hours in, the fruit is gone, the herbs are ghosts, and what remains is a gentle musk-amber-cedar base. It's close to the skin, a clean warmth that smells like a sweater that's been folded and put away. By hour five or six, you're left with soft cedar and a trace of white musk, intimate and barely-there.
Cultural impact
Relax Eau de White Floral won the @Cosme Best Fragrance award in 2014 and placed third the following year, a notable reception in the Japanese market where the Jill Stuart label has a strong following. The award recognition helped cement the scent's reputation among domestic fans who follow the @Cosme rankings closely, and the consecutive placement suggested genuine staying power rather than a one-season flash. Within that context, the fragrance became something of a benchmark for soft, wearable florals in the mid-2010s Japanese market, a reliable crowd-pleaser that showed up on best-of lists and recommendation threads alike.
