The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Christine Nagel designed Something Pure Blue for Jill Stuart's limited wedding collection in 2017. The brief was simple: capture that moment before walking down the aisle. Not the ceremony, not the celebration, the stillness. The held breath. She worked with that 'something blue' tradition brides carry, translating it into a fragrance that feels like the morning after rain: clean, clear, almost translucent. The result is a scent that doesn't announce itself so much as it arrives alongside you.
What makes this composition distinctive is the tulle accord, a note rarely attempted and harder to execute. Tulle isn't a material that gives obvious scent cues; it suggests texture, translucency, the faint warmth of fabric on skin. Nagel builds this into an osmanthus and crystal musk base that reads less like perfume and more like the memory of wearing something soft. The result is a floral that resists the usual density, it's structural rather than heavy, layered rather than loud. On skin, it occupies space without filling it.
The evolution
The opening is crisp and bright, pear and apple with edelweiss and bergamot cutting through like cool air. Snowdrop and sweet pea arrive quickly, adding a watery green quality that feels like morning. This is the veil settling. By the time you reach the heart, the florals deepen without darkening. White rose, jasmine, and orange blossom layer together, their petals luminous rather than heavy. The peach note adds warmth underneath, a subtle sweetness that prevents the whole thing from reading cold. The osmanthus in the base is the surprise, apricot and jam, unexpected in something so clean. It pairs with crystal musk and the tulle accord to create a drydown that feels skin-close and intimate. Not projection. Presence. The scent stays close for 6-8 hours, eventually becoming a quiet warmth rather than a statement.
Cultural impact
This limited edition arrived in 2017 as part of Jill Stuart's Something Pure Blue wedding collection. It occupies a specific niche: not a mainstream bridal scent, but a collector's piece for brides and fragrance enthusiasts drawn to the brand's particular blend of softness and precision.
