The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sophia Grojsman doesn't dilute her vision. Outrageous arrived in 2017 as a limited edition, a concentrated expression of her approach to fragrance composition. The scent earns its name through an uncompromising commitment to green apple's most vivid expression and aldehydes at their most electric. Where many perfumers soften their edges, Grojsman pushed citrus and aldehyde interplay into territory that feels both classic and startlingly modern. The fragrance exists because she decided the world needed a citrus that doesn't apologize for being exactly what it is.
The opening features five top notes: Lime, Green Apple, Grapefruit, Mint, and Cinnamon, a dense cluster that creates immediate energy. Grojsman kept them all together, letting them breathe and interplay rather than isolating them. The heart simplifies to Neroli and Orange Blossom, two white florals that share a certain kinship, each amplifying the other's brightness. The real structural move lives in the base, where aldehydes anchor the composition.
The evolution
The fragrance opens crisp and dewy. Lime and a bold apple note evoke the impression of Granny Smiths still glistening with water, freshly unpacked. Mint cools the citrus almost immediately, while grapefruit adds brightness without any sourness. As the citrus begins to fade, neroli and orange blossom arrive, shifting the character toward something cleaner and softer. Around the midpoint, aldehydes take over. That's when the fragrance lifts, developing a sparkle that borders on electric, almost soapy but leaning more mineral than powdery. The base settles into cedar and ambroxan, woody and warm, surprisingly intimate. The drydown is close to the skin, inviting those nearby to lean in rather than announcing itself across a room.
Cultural impact
Outrageous! stands as a distinctive entry in Malle's Editions de Parfums collection. Sophia Grojsman's composition offers a bold citrus and aldehyde interplay that feels uncommon in contemporary perfumery. The 2017 release reflects her signature approach, layering ambroxan with aldehydic techniques that carry echoes of classic perfumery. The limited nature of the release positions this scent as a collector's piece for those seeking unconventional olfactory experiences, rewarding attention with something that resists easy categorization.
