The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Al Mare arrived in 2021 from perfumer Ceyhan Elmas. Its composition makes the maritime cue vivid without settling for a soft, postcard version of the coast. Bergamot and lime establish brisk brightness, joined by sage and aquatic notes that give the opening a fresh, outward-moving character. Jasmine, lavender, musk and white flowers then bring a cleaner floral register, balancing the lively citrus with softer, smoother tones. Amber, ambergris, cedarwood, sandalwood and white musk anchor the fragrance in a warm, woody base. Together, these notes create a polished marine composition with enough contrast to hold attention as it develops on skin.
What makes the composition interesting is its balance of freshness and warmth. Aquatic notes suggest open water, while sage adds a green, herbal quality to the opening. Jasmine, lavender and white flowers bring a floral layer that complements the marine character, and musk softens the overall effect. Down below, amber and ambergris introduce warmth, while cedarwood and sandalwood provide a smooth woody grain. The result is aquatic with a refined finish, combining bright citrus, green notes, flowers and a warm base in a fragrance that feels vivid yet composed.
The evolution
The first impression is movement. Bergamot and lime catch the air, sage adds a herbal note, and aquatic notes extend the composition with a fresh maritime presence. As that bright opening settles, jasmine and lavender introduce a floral softness while preserving the saline character associated with the aquatic accord. Musk and white flowers create a powdery, skin-clean atmosphere, adding a smoother layer to the fragrance. The composition then gives more weight to its woody foundation. Cedarwood and sandalwood bring a controlled grain, while amber and ambergris add warmth beneath the floral and musk notes. The drydown is defined by this blend of wood, amber and musk, with the marine facets becoming less prominent as the warmer base takes over.
Cultural impact
Al Mare presents a marine fragrance through a layered composition rather than a single-note effect. Bergamot, lime and sage create a bright opening, followed by aquatic notes that establish the maritime theme. Jasmine, lavender, musk and white flowers bring floral and powdery textures, while amber, ambergris, cedarwood, sandalwood and white musk give the composition warmth and structure. Its appeal lies in the way these contrasting notes combine freshness with a fuller, more textured finish.
The House
Fratelli DiamantiFratelli Diamanti is an Italian-named fragrance house founded by Ceyhan and Erhan Elmas, brothers whose work places scent at the meeting point of Italian perfumery and Middle Eastern fragrance culture. The brand presents a broad collection of niche perfumes, including Al Cielo, Royal Oud, Reborn Rose, Sha'mamia, Ten Miles, Shades of Grey, Florence, Al Mare, Al Vento and Montecristo. Its catalogue moves between oud-led compositions, floral names, atmospheric scents and references to place and travel. Public descriptions identify the house with extrait de parfum, giving the collection a clear identity within concentrated fragrance. Fratelli Diamanti also developed the Diamond Collection, a 15-fragrance series reported to include Montecristo, one of the house’s most discussed releases.
