Faberlic launched Urban Legend For Him in 2017, and the brief reads like a quiet challenge: build something for the everyday Russian man who wants to smell considered, not loud. Antoine Lie, the perfumer behind the composition, composed a fragrance rooted in unexpected pairings. Urban Legend works within that approach. The name borrows the mythology of stories passed along without proof, scents that someone swears they remember from childhood but can't quite place. The construction supports that idea. Nothing about it announces itself as revolutionary. Everything about it earns its space. The opening crackles with ginger and a curl of citrus, bright enough to register across a room but never brash.
What makes this worth attention is the ginger-leather axis running underneath the whole composition. Lie uses ginger to set a tempo, then threads cinnamon and apple through the middle so the warmth keeps developing. The leather in the base doesn't arrive smelling like a car seat. It arrives smelling like something you forgot you owned, softened by time and cedar. The cinnamon has a dry warmth, almost woodsy, never veering into the sticky sweetness that cinnamon can fall into when it overstays.
The evolution
Bergamot and lemon hit first, bright and slightly green, with ginger snapping at the edges like static. Urban Legend For Him sits within the aromatic fougère tradition, a structure long associated with masculine grooming and barbershop-adjacent scents.
