The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Valkyrie arrived in 2019, conjured by Olivier Cresp from the brand's Russian workshop. The concept draws from Scandinavian sagas, the warrior maidens who chose who lived and died in battle. The fragrance opens with citrus brightness, moving through floral notes that include edelweiss, hyacinth, and rose petals, grounded by woody base notes of cedar. The composition layers green freshness against warmer elements, creating a scent that balances cool florals with depth. On application, the citrus arrives with some presence, transitioning into the floral heart where edelweiss anchors the blend, followed by hyacinth's green floralcy and soft rose. The drydown settles into musk and cedar, completing the composition.
What makes Valkyrie interesting is its structural approach. The opening doesn't tease or delay, citrus arrives immediately, bright and assertive. But the heart is where Cresp earns his reputation. Edelweiss is unusual in mainstream perfumery, bringing a distinct character to the blend. Here it anchors a heart of hyacinth and rose petals that stays cool rather than overly sweet. The arctic bramble adds a tartness that keeps the floral heart grounded. The rose note maintains its presence without becoming dominant, keeping the overall composition measured and refined.
The evolution
The opening features lemon and bergamot, bright and assertive. Tarocco orange adds sweetness to the citrus layer. Ten minutes in, green apple surfaces, crisp and present, and an aquatic undertone becomes apparent. The heart phase is where Valkyrie earns its name. Edelweiss opens, followed by hyacinth's green floralcy and rose petals that stay restrained. The drydown arrives with musk and cedar, adding warmth and depth. This is where the fragrance settles, taking on a more personal character as it moves through its phases.
Cultural impact
Valkyrie occupies a distinctive position in the Russian fragrance market: a composition named for a mythological warrior rather than a lifestyle aspiration. It arrived in 2019 as part of a paired concept with a corresponding male Viking fragrance, a narrative approach that reflects ambition in how the brand presents its releases. The fragrance has found its audience among women who want something that reads as modern and intentional without performing for attention. Its cool florals and restrained drydown make it stand apart from sweeter, more projection-heavy options available at similar price points.
