The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Althea emerged in 2012 as Eudora's response to a growing demand for vibrant, youthful floral fragrances in Brazil. Inspired by the resilience of the camellia, a flower that thrives in bright tropical climates, the perfumers sought to translate its intense floral spirit into a modern cologne format. The brand, launched in Brazil in 2011 by Grupo Boticário, had established itself on youthful, trend-forward fragrances that blend local ingredients with contemporary appeal. Althea became a signature expression of that philosophy: approachable enough for daily wear, yet brimming with genuine character and complexity.
The note selection for Althea reflects a deliberate philosophy: pair bright citrus top notes with tropical florals, then anchor both in warm, textured woods. Bergamot offers familiar aromatic appeal while mandarin orange brings youthful brightness that resonates with the Eudora brand ethos. Apple adds a contemporary fruity nuance that distinguishes the opening from typical citrus fragrances. The gardenia and jasmine heart required a warm base to balance their intensity, so vanilla softens their richness while patchouli provides necessary woody depth. Sandalwood contributes creamy texture, and musk adds that invisible warmth that keeps the fragrance close to skin rather than projecting aggressively.
The evolution
The fragrance unfolds in three distinct movements, each with a clear personality. The opening chapter introduces bergamot, apple, and mandarin orange in immediate effervescence, a citrus burst that energizes the senses. From there, the composition transitions into a lush floral heart where gardenia, jasmine, and lily interact in rich harmony, delivering the intense floral spirit that defines the scent's identity. The composition concludes with a warm, textured base where vanilla, patchouli, sandalwood, and musk converge to ground the florals, allowing the wearer to carry that signature intensity into a softer, more Intimate phase. The arc traces a journey from bright energy through floral abundance to warm intimacy.
Cultural impact
Since its 2012 debut, Althea has become a favorite among Brazilian college students and young professionals, often cited on social media as the go‑to scent for casual brunches and weekend outings, embodying the brand’s accessible, vibrant spirit. Its popularity has also inspired local pop‑culture references, appearing in university event playlists and being mentioned in student blogs as the go‑to fragrance for celebratory moments, reinforcing its status as a cultural touchstone among Brazil’s youth.
