The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Chic arrived at a moment when the market was full of fragrances that announced themselves before you even smelled them. The perfumers Shyamala Maisondieu and Nadège Le Garlantezec created a fruity-floral that felt intentional without being heavy. Lush florals fill the heart of the composition, warming into vanilla and sandalwood as the scent settles. Not a statement fragrance. Something for the dresser who treats scent as part of getting ready, not a ceremony. The heart opens with a soft, natural bloom, each petal-like note layered without weight. As it moves toward the base, the warmth builds gently, creamy and enveloping, never loud. The finish is skin-close, lingering without announcing itself.
The note structure is where it gets interesting. Apple, peony, and a cluster of citrus fruits open the composition, green, bright, and immediately modern. The heart adds jasmine, lily of the valley, and freesia alongside maltol and peach, creating a sweet, slightly powdery warmth that bridges the fresh opening and the creamy base. Vanilla and sandalwood anchor everything, but the Accord Eudora is the thread that pulls it together, keeping the layers from scattering into something generic.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and immediate. Bergamot, lemon, apple, and blackcurrant arrive together, crisp, effervescent, each fruit distinct but overlapping like fruit at a market stall. The citrus does not tease. It lands. The florals arrive next, with jasmine and freesia leading the heart, maltol and peach adding a sweet, slightly powdery warmth that softens the transition. The white florals bloom without overwhelming. By the time the base arrives, the florals have settled into the skin and the vanilla-sandalwood begins to show. A warm, creamy drydown that stays close for the next several hours. The fragrance evolves as it dries, the initial brightness mellowing into something softer and more intimate as time passes. The heart lingers longest, the floral warmth staying present even as the top notes fade, creating a continuous thread of softness that carries through to the base.
Cultural impact
The fruity-floral orientation reads as considered rather than accidental. It occupies a middle ground between the bold tropicals and the more subtle white florals, a space where personality and wearability meet. The fragrance has a quiet confidence that works across different contexts without feeling out of place. Its character feels intentional, shaped by someone who understands that scent is personal.
