The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cèdre Bleu was launched in 2017 as part of Durance en Provence's L'òme line, the house's Provençal name for a man. Its subject is cedarwood, but it isn't treated like a heavy tree trunk. Mandarin orange and thyme give the composition a sunlit opening, while pink pepper adds a bright, aromatic snap. The scent begins somewhere lighter altogether: citrus peel, garden herbs and a clean rush of spice. As the brighter notes settle, warm spice enters the composition, leading into a smooth woody base of cedarwood and teakwood softened by white musk.
What makes Cèdre Bleu interesting is the friction between its opening and its base. Citrus and thyme bring lift and freshness; nutmeg, cardamom and clove make the middle feel warmer and more tactile. Then cedarwood and teakwood step in, turning that brightness into a composed woody frame. White musk softens the edges without turning powdery. It is a familiar fresh-woody formula, but the sequence gives it movement rather than a single repeated idea.
The evolution
The first impression is brisk: mandarin orange cuts through air, thyme brings a green herbal edge, and pink pepper adds a polished flare. As those notes recede, nutmeg and cardamom introduce dry warmth, with clove supplying a sharper, darker thread. The composition then settles into cedarwood and teakwood, where the earlier freshness reads less like citrus and more like sun-warmed timber. White musk keeps the base close to skin. Over time, the brighter opening gives way to a restrained woody drydown, clean, gently spicy and still recognizable.
Cultural impact
Cèdre Bleu belongs to Durance en Provence's L'òme line, whose name is identified as the house's Provençal name for a man. The fragrance itself moves from mandarin orange and thyme through pink pepper, nutmeg, cardamom and clove before settling into cedarwood, teakwood and white musk. That sequence gives the composition its character: an opening of bright citrus and green herbs, a warm and aromatic middle, and a smooth, clean woody base. The result is both lively and composed, with each note family clearly present.
