The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Playmaker launched in 2023 by Indonesian fragrance house Crusita, with Amandine Clerc-Marie credited as perfumer. The composition places violet leaf and black pepper beside bergamot and grapefruit, giving the opening a brisk, lightly ozonic edge. That first impression feels active rather than ornamental, a fragrance built around movement and self-possession. The title suits its character, though the notes carry the idea more clearly: citrus brightness over warm spice, herbs, patchouli, oud, and resinous woods. Nothing about Playmaker is quiet, but it doesn't need to shout all the way through.
The interesting part is the handoff from fresh to grounded. Violet leaf gives the opening a cool, leafy snap, while bergamot and grapefruit bring light and citrus sparkle. Black pepper introduces a small flash of heat. Nutmeg, sage, and geranium then make the center more tactile, herbal and slightly aromatic. Patchouli, oud, opoponax, styrax, and amber create a darker base, but the brighter top keeps the whole thing from reading like a heavy evening scent.
The evolution
Playmaker begins with a cool, lively burst of violet leaf, bergamot, grapefruit, and black pepper. The citrus and leafy notes do the early talking, while pepper adds a measured kick rather than a blast of smoke. As the scent develops, nutmeg, sage, and geranium bring a greener, more aromatic middle. Geranium keeps the composition polished; sage gives it a clean herbal edge, and nutmeg adds warmth without turning the heart overly sweet. Then the base takes over. Patchouli brings earthy depth, oud adds a dark woody center, and opoponax, styrax, and amber make the drydown resinous and warm. By the final hours, Playmaker sits closer to the skin, leaving a quiet trace of woods, spice, and amber after the brighter opening has vanished.
Cultural impact
Playmaker sits inside Crusita's vibrant Southeast Asian fragrance culture, where scent is treated as a mood-shifter rather than a formal signature. Its fresh, spicy character and bold naming fit a catalog built for self-expression, social energy, and younger wearers who like fragrance to announce a mood before the conversation starts.
The House
CrusitaCrusita is an Indonesian fragrance house that has built a following around a colorful, personality-driven catalog of scents. Its range spans playful everyday colognes, bolder statement pieces, and collaborations with local personalities, including Melaney Ricardo. Releases like Scandal (2022), Rich Gold (2023), and Symphony Of The Sea (2024) suggest a brand that moves quickly, testing new ideas across collections rather than guarding a single signature. The house also runs a dedicated Sport Collection, developed in partnership with Fragrance House, which points to a broader strategy of themed drops designed for specific moods and moments.
The Creator
Amandine Clerc-MarieWhile it's difficult to pin down a single, defining characteristic across her entire body of work, a certain smoothness and refinement seem to be consistent themes. She appears to favor well-blended compositions, where individual notes harmonize to create a cohesive whole.
