The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
First Kiss by Melaney Ricardo arrived in 2024. The name borrows the charged innocence of a first encounter, that electric pause before everything shifts, and translates it into something wearable rather than literal. Rather than resting on a single house signature, the release presents a distinct point of view through its fragrance notes and the character of its title. Blackcurrant and black pepper establish the opening, followed by jasmine, rose, and lily of the valley at the heart. Amber, musk, and vanilla complete the composition with a warm, softly rounded foundation. It's a fragrance built around contrast: fruit and spice, floral notes with different personalities, and a base that gives the blend a lingering sense of intimacy.
What makes this composition work is the tension at its edges. Blackcurrant brings dark fruit sweetness, while black pepper adds a dry, sharp counterpoint that keeps the opening from becoming overly sweet. That pairing leads into a floral heart of jasmine, rose, and lily of the valley. The three white-floral notes give the center different textures and intensities: jasmine adds a fuller floral presence, rose brings a recognizable floral character, and lily of the valley contributes a lighter, green impression. The base of amber, musk, and vanilla pulls the whole composition together.
The evolution
On skin, the opening is built around the meeting point between blackcurrant and black pepper. The fruit note contributes dark sweetness, while pepper introduces a dry, sharp contrast. Together they create a vivid first impression, with the fruit and spice appearing more energetic than either would on its own. As the fragrance develops, jasmine, rose, and lily of the valley form the heart of the composition. Jasmine gives the floral center a fuller shape, rose adds its familiar rosy character, and lily of the valley contributes a lighter green quality. The combination moves between sweetness, spice, and florals without resolving too quickly in one direction. Amber, musk, and vanilla then define the base. Amber adds warmth, vanilla brings sweetness, and musk gives the drydown a soft, close-fitting character.
Cultural impact
First Kiss by Melaney Ricardo brings together a personal name with a fragrance built around contrast. The title gives the release an intimate theme, while the notes create a composition that moves between dark fruit sweetness, pepper, white florals, amber, musk, and vanilla. Jasmine, rose, and lily of the valley each contribute a distinct part of the floral center, allowing the heart to feel layered rather than uniform. Amber and vanilla add sweetness and warmth to the base, while musk gives it a soft underlying presence.
