The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nathalie Feisthauer created Pasha de Cartier Edition Noire in 2013 as a reimagining of the 1992 Pasha de Cartier, a fragrance that had already earned its place in the Cartier canon. Feisthauer looked at what the original did well, that crisp, green citrus opening, and built from there. The goal was clear: keep the freshness that made the original work, add depth and complexity, and create something that feels current without abandoning the character that made the first version worth collecting. The result brings together mint, cedar, and amber in a way that feels both familiar and new, maintaining that green citrus foundation while layering in warmer woody tones that give the scent more presence and weight than its predecessor.
The choice to pair mint with cedar and amber is where Feisthauer's intent becomes clear. Mint gives the opening its lift, that immediate cool sensation that opens the composition. Cedar and amber provide the foundation that holds everything together as the scent develops. The heliotrope and violet add a powdery floral dimension that brings complexity to the blend. Green notes ground the whole thing in a natural, slightly herbal freshness that keeps the scent balanced and alive.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, mint, citrus, and a translucent aquatic note that feel immediate and clean. Within minutes, the mint softens and the heart takes over: cedar and violet arrive together, bringing a quiet powdery floral quality. The iris adds a subtle earthiness that complements the cedar. By the later stages, the amber and heliotrope come forward, warm and powdery, settling close to the skin. The cedar lingers longest, settling into the skin like a second layer. The overall arc moves from bright and immediate through a powdery floral middle stage to a warm, close drydown that stays with the wearer through the day.
Cultural impact
Pasha de Cartier Edition Noire appeals to the man who wants something fresh and interesting without being overwhelming. Since its launch, it has found a following among wearers who appreciate its balance of citrus brightness and woody depth. The mint-and-cedar pairing gives it a versatility that works across different contexts and occasions. Wearers describe it as a scent that gets noticed by the people who notice such things.
