The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Decisamente Rosa arrived in 2026 as part of Bois 1920's Le Voluttuose collection, a line built around the house's more indulgent tendencies. The name says it openly: decidedly rose, not apologetically rose. Perfumer Arturetto Landi composed the formula to push Damask rose beyond the delicate floral register it usually lives in, layering it against a dense tropical fruit accord and a gourmand-leaning base. This is a Florentine house willing to turn the volume up. The composition reflects that confidence, pairing rose with mango and coconut rather than the usual supporting cast of citrus and green leaves.
What sets this apart from the crowded rose-and-vanilla field is the fruit. Most rose fragrances treat Damask rose as the star and build supporting chords around it. Here the fruit opens first, mango and plum arriving before the rose has fully declared itself. Hazelnut and coconut add a nut-and-cream dimension that lands somewhere between a patisserie counter and a sun-warmed orchard. The May rose and Damask rose pairing is intentional, two species of the same flower layered to create a fuller, more textured floral heart. Iris enters as a powdery bridge between the fruit and the base, softening the transition into vanilla and sandalwood without losing the composition's body.
The evolution
The first five minutes are almost entirely fruit and spice. Mango carries the sweetness, plum adds depth, and ginger cuts through with a clean bite that keeps the opening from collapsing into syrup. The rose arrives around the ten-minute mark, folding into the fruit rather than replacing it. By the thirty-minute point, Damask rose and May rose have settled into the center, but the coconut and hazelnut are still audible underneath, giving the heart a milky, almost confectionery weight. The drydown shifts the conversation to vanilla and sandalwood, with white musk providing a clean skin-like finish. The rose doesn't disappear, though. It lingers through the base as a soft, warm presence, woven through the vanilla rather than sitting on top of it, which gives the late stages a quiet coherence instead of a sharp pivot.
Cultural impact
Decisamente Rosa reads as a confident entry into the rose-gourmand crossover that has been gaining ground in recent launches, a category where floral hearts meet milky, nutty, or vanillic bases without either side dominating. The Damask rose at the center gives the composition its spine, and pairing it with coconut and hazelnut places it within a broader conversation about how rose can be made to feel edible rather than purely green or dewy. Within Bois 1920's own catalogue, it functions as an indulgent counterweight to the brand's more austere, classic-leaning offerings, and it shows a willingness to engage with sweetness on its own terms.
