The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
New West for Her arrived in 1990. Perfumer Yves Tanguy built a fragrance with ozonic top notes that shimmer like light on water. The opening blends watery melon with citrus brightness, creating an immediate sense of freshness. Green notes weave through the composition, bringing a natural quality that feels alive and dynamic. The overall impression is modern and distinctive, avoiding the clichés of its era.
The note structure balances ozonic freshness, green earthiness, and warm florals. Ozonic notes like Calone and Helional create that signature lift. Green elements of pine needles and moss ground the composition with natural depth. Warm florals including carnation, jasmine, and rose add complexity and richness. Fruity top notes of melon, peach, and plum keep the opening accessible and inviting. The base combines cedar, leather, and amber, providing warmth and substance beneath the surface.
The evolution
The opening brings watery melon and bergamot, bright and immediate. Calone adds that ozonic lift that separates this from standard aquatics. Plum and violet soften the citrus. The green thread continues through pine tree needles. The florals arrive with carnation's spice, jasmine's cream, and rose's quiet warmth. Cedar and leather anchor the base. Moss adds earth. Amber and musk create warmth.
Cultural impact
The fragrance combines ozonic freshness with green and floral complexity. Where some aquatics stay purely marine, this blends multiple dimensions beneath the surface. Fruity top notes of melon, peach, and plum provide accessibility. Warm florals of carnation, jasmine, and rose add richness. Cedar, leather, and amber provide depth. The result is a fragrance that transcends simple aquatic categories.
