The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pretty Pink arrived in 2023 as part of Anna Sui's Sundae collection, a trio of fragrances built around the idea of dessert reimagined as scent. The name suggests sweetness, maybe something edible. But perfumer Jérôme Epinette had other ideas. He built the opening around pink pomelo and mandarin, citrus fruits that together create a brightness that's tart without being sharp, before letting the composition soften into a heart of bellini and plum blossom. The Sundae collection frames fragrance as indulgence without the calories: playful, colorful, and decidedly modern.
The choice of bellini as a heart note is unexpected. It's a cocktail accord, peach and prosecco, but here it reads more mineral than sweet, almost watery against the plum blossom. The basil in the opening adds a green, slightly herbal quality that surprises: most florals open with sweetness. Pretty Pink opens with brightness, almost sharpness, before settling into something softer. The base of musk and amber keeps it grounded without heaviness, this is a fragrance that stays close to the skin, intimate rather than announced.
The evolution
The opening arrives fast, pink pomelo and mandarin hit within seconds, bright and tart with a hint of green from the basil. It smells clean, almost soapy, the kind of freshness that reads as 'just showered.' Within 20 minutes, the bellini emerges, softening the citrus into something more floral and watery. The plum blossom adds a quiet sweetness that doesn't announce itself. By the heart phase, the composition has settled into something gentler: cyclamen's delicate, almost powdery floralcy over a base of musk and amber. The Brazilian rosewood adds a woody warmth that keeps everything grounded. The drydown is subtle, musk and amber lingering close to the skin for 4-6 hours. On clothing, it fades faster, but on skin it holds its quiet presence through the day.
Cultural impact
Pretty Pink joins Anna Sui's Sundae collection, a trio of fragrances built around the idea of dessert as scent. The collection's premise is indulgence without the calories: playful, colorful, and decidedly modern. Pretty Pink stands out for its unexpected freshness, where the name promises sweetness, the scent delivers clean citrus. It's the kind of fragrance that appeals to the person who wants to smell like they just showered, not like they just walked out of a bakery.
