The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Santé was created by perfumer David Magalhães and launched by Amberfig in 2025 as a limited edition for women and men. Its inspiration is a song of the same name, a point that gives the composition its evening rhythm: whiskey leads, warm spice follows, and the drydown settles into woods, resins, and a restrained sweetness. The official description places whiskey at the opening, with bay rum and cinnamon supplying gently warmed spice. That idea is carried through by a heart of natural orris, White Oud, and Mysore Sandalwood, where powdery iris and dense woods make the whiskey feel less like a casual drink and more like a composed signature.
The interesting part is the tension between brightness and weight. Bay Rum, whiskey, and cinnamon give Santé a lucid, aromatic opening, but honey and iris soften the middle before White Oud and Mysore Sandalwood pull it toward something dry and substantial. Labdanum, Styrax, Castoreum, Guaiac Wood, Siam Benzoin, and Vanilla make the base feel layered rather than simply sweet. It's a composition that can move from polished to smoky without losing its thread.
The evolution
The opening begins with whiskey at full volume, framed by the green-dark snap of Bay Rum and the dry flicker of Cinnamon. That brightness gives way to honey, a cool powdery iris, and the close-grained character of White Oud and Mysore Sandalwood. The middle feels more composed, almost tailored, with sweetness pulled through woody grain rather than spread over everything. Later, Labdanum, Styrax, Castoreum, Guaiac Wood, Siam Benzoin, and Vanilla settle into a resinous base. The smoke and leather facets become more apparent as the opening recedes, while vanilla leaves a soft trace underneath. As the scent settles, the drydown remains close and woody, with a faint sweetness lingering beneath the darker resinous notes. Its trail carries that drydown for hours, leaving a close, woody, faintly sweet memory.
Cultural impact
Santé presents a whiskey-centered composition built around a gradual shift from bright and dry to woody, smoky, and resinous. Bay Rum and Cinnamon give the opening a crisp edge, while honey, iris, White Oud, and Mysore Sandalwood introduce a powdery sweetness shaped by close wood grain. As the fragrance settles, Labdanum, Styrax, Castoreum, Guaiac Wood, Siam Benzoin, and Vanilla create a darker base, with smoke and leather facets becoming more apparent. Vanilla remains softly present underneath, leaving the composition close, woody, and faintly sweet as it wears over time.
The House
AmberfigAmberfig occupies a distinctive space in contemporary perfumery, presenting itself as a niche fragrance house with a collaborative approach to creation. The brand emerged in 2014, making it a relatively young player in a field that includes houses with centuries of history, yet it has built a catalog spanning over a decade with releases that range from 2015 through 2026. The name Amberfig itself suggests a signature aesthetic rooted in warm, resinous materials alongside green or fruity facets, though the house has demonstrated range across multiple fragrance families. According to fragrance databases, Amberfig has produced at least ten distinct releases, with perfumers credited as collaborators rather than house perfumers, suggesting a model that brings in external expertise for individual projects. The brand appears to operate without the extensive media presence of established heritage houses, instead building recognition through its olfactory offerings and community discussion. This positioning reflects a broader trend in niche perfumery where smaller, more experimental houses can reach global audiences without traditional retail infrastructure.
